No such provision is their till date.

AcSIR doesn’t offer part time mode of Ph.d in any labs, However Industry sponsored candidates are admitted for the programmes.

Interdisciplinary research (IDR) is a mode of research by teams or individuals that integrates information, data, techniques, tools, perspectives, concepts, and/or theories from two or more disciplines or bodies of specialized knowledge to advance fundamental understanding or to solve problems whose solutions are beyond the scope of a single discipline or area of research practice.

AcSIR encourages barrier free transition from one background discipline to acquire higher degree in another discipline.

No, AcSIR is not yet accredited by any accreditation body in India. Necessary actions are being taken to Institutional and/ or Program accreditation.

However, it may please be noted that AcSIR has been established, by the Indian Parliament, as an Institution of National Importance by the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) Act, 2011 and duly notified in the Gazette of India in February, 2012.

It should be noted that many universities outside of India refer UGC’s website http://www.ugc.ac.in/institutes-national-importance.aspx of University Grant Commission (UGC) for this purpose.

However, the institutes given in the list are the ones which are under the administrative control of Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. Please check out the MHRD website page http://mhrd.gov.in/instiutions_imp.

This list is not complete and does not mention some major academic institutions in India e.g. Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Kolkata, Mohali, Bhopal, etc. on this webpage that are actually funded by this ministry; however, they do appear at other webpages of MHRD listing them as universities of national importance.

AcSIR is separate from above universities/institutes (that are under MHRD) and is not under the administrative control of MHRD, so AcSIR does not appear in the above lists that are usually referred by Universities abroad. It is focused as a research university (with Masters and PhD programs in science and engineering) and is closely tied-in with various Laboratories of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR); India’s national research labs setup. It has been established under the AcSIR Act of 2010-2011 and duly notified in the gazette of India in February, 2012.

Please refer to AcSIR website http://www.acsir.res.in/ for more information and details.

You may write to universities to check and search for various news items in public domain related to AcSIR as well as view official government news releases e.g.
